For a long time now I have had the idea to run some hypervisors out of my house. To day I am finally able to do that. The equipment I’m using to day consist of some dell 720 servers with 2 2.8GHZ CPU’s, 380G of ram, each has a GeForce GTX 660 and some SSD’s. These servers do not support Bifurcation so I can not run a NVME to PCIe adapter.

Network working hardware is a bit more basic. I have a simple FortiGate Firewall doing filtering and VLANs for network segmentation. For my switch I’m using a cheapo Netgear 24 port “Dumb” switch. This switch does pass through VLAN tagging and allows me to segment the VM network space.

I am working/waiting for some additional bandwidth from my ISP. I will be upgrading to a 1G/1G connection to mitigate any lag.

As for now I’m just doing simple things like running game servers and a domain controller. I would like to switch over and begin looking into Ansible in my lab environment, but this will be at a later date.

6-14-24 Update

Connected each server together with a 10G Twinax Cable. Change my cluster settings to use it for migration. I was able to move 65G in 10 seconds.
